He married Eva Stang on Nov 3, 1891 in Ida Grove, IA. . They were the parents of Joseph, John, and Charles. July 19, 1895 - Carroll Sentinel - Chas. Kanne died at his home Sunday morning at 3 o'clock. About a year ago Mr. Kanne was taken down with a species of cancer. Since that time he has done all that medical science could to free himself of the disease. He has gradually grown weaker ever since. The cancer appeared on the side of his neck and gradually grew worse until it destroyed the blood vessals and the patient bled to death. The funeral was held at S.S. Peter & Paul's church at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning. The deceased was about 30 years old, having moved to this county with his parents twenty-four years ago. For the past few years he has been engaged in the butcher business until he was taken sick. Mr. Kanne was the organizer of the Turner's society and is the first one of its members to be called away. The deceased leaves a wife and three small children to mourn his loss. He was one of those jolly, good natured fellows that made life pleasant for all with whom he came in contact and it seems especially unfortunate that one with such a buoyant disposition should have suffered such a death. He carried a life insurance policy in the Roman Catholic Mutual association and also one in the Bankers life for $2,000. The funeral of Chas. Kanne was held Tuesday forenoon at Ss. Peter & Paul's church, Rev. Father Nacke officiating. The funeral procession was formed at the residence in the second ward and was one of the largest that has turned out in our city. It was headed by the Union band, followed by the members of the Turn-Varine and Germania society on foot. The two societies were represented by about one hundred members. Following this were the pall bearers, the hearse, mourners and friends in carriages. The whole procession was over half a mile in length. The services at the church were very impressive. After the exercises were over at the church the remains were escorted to Ss. Peter & Paul's cemetery where they were laid to rest. The deceased was one of the best known young men in this part of the county and all who came in contact with him could not help but admire him. The bereaved widow and the three small children have the deepest sympathy of their many friends in their sad misfortune.
