Karolina Miller was born in Kunersdorf, near Froichau, Bohemia, Austria, October 30, 1844. She was baptized and confirmed at the usual age for those solemn rites in the Catholic faith in her fatherland. In 1868 the deceased was married to Anton Krause, who was from the same place in the fatherland. To this union nine children were born. Three of them preceded the parents in death. In 1884, with six children in the family, Mrs. Krause came to this country, locating northeast of Ohiowa, Neb. She spent her life on the home farm until fourteen years ago, when she and her late husband retired from active farm life and moved to Ohiowa. After a few years of retired life in town, the husband and father died. Since that time the mother had made her home with the children until two years ago last November, when she made her permanent home with her daughter, Fanny Schafer, and family. Mrs. Krause's health began to fail last summer. From that time she gradually slipped away from life. The last five weeks she became entirely helpless and bedfast and needed individual care, help and love. Saturday morning, February 6, 1932, the good Lord delivered her from the bonds of earthly life, calling her at the age of 87 years, 3 months and 7 days. Blessed be the Lord for all He has done to her and through her to others. She leaves to mourn her departure one son and five daughters; Gustav Krause and wife; Mrs. Anna Schropfer, Mrs. Rose Franck, Mrs Mary Freels, Mrs. Fannie Schafer, and Mrs. Albina Schelbitzki; thirty-seven grand children and great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 1 p.m. with short services at the home of Herman Schafer and at 2 p.m. at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church with the pastor, Rev. J. A. Bahnsen, officiating. The text for his discourse was found in Luke 24:29. The church was filled with relatives and old friends and neighbors. All children with their families were present but Mrs. August Frank of Tobias, who was ill of flu. St. John's chorus sang two selections, "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Peace, Perfect Peace," and Mrs. Edwin Bahe sang, "Tis Sweet to Know". Pallbearers were the following grandchildren: Reinhard Schafer, Clifford Freels, James Schelbitzki, Herman Schropfer, Edward and Daniel Franck. Interment was in the Ohiowa City Cemetery beside her husband.
