Haskamp as celebrant of the High Mass of Requiem and officiating at the graveside services in St. Stephens cemetery where internment was made beside her husband. Katharina Goetken was born near Festina, Iowa, and passed away on Oct. 7, 1947, at the age of 88 years, 5 months, and 6 days. She was united in marriage to Joseph Kathmann on Feb. 20, 1878, at Mother of Sorrows church in Festina. They resided near Festina until 1893 when the entire family moved to Nebraska locating on a farm 4 miles southeast of Lawrence where both spent their entire life except for the last two years, when due to illness, Mrs. Kathmann moved to the homes of her daughters. They celebrated their Golden wedding anniversary in 1928 with the presence of their children, grandchildren and many friends. Mr. Kathmann preceded his wife in death 12 years ago. Throughout her entire life, she practiced the teachings of the Catholic church and in passing to her eternal reward was fortified by the last rites of her religion. She was always a loving mother, having the welfare of her family ever in mind. Her passing will be deeply felt. During her 54 years residence in this community, she made a host of friends who came to pay their last respects. The Rosary was recited each evening, led by the Altar Society of which she was a member for 54 years. She leaves ten children to mourn her loss: six sons, Ben, William, Edward, Frank, and Henry of this community and Joseph of Cunningham, Kan. Four daughters, Mrs. Mary Schrandt, Plainville, Kan., Mrs. Fred Brockman, Mrs. Henry Pohlmeier, and Mrs. John G. Hoelting, Lawrence, also 76 grandchildren and 60 great grandchildren, and a large number of relatives and friends. Pallbearers were six grandsons, Vincent Pohlmeier, Ralph Kathman, Edmund Brockman, Irvin Kathman, Alois Hoelting, and William Kathman. Relatives and friends from a distance who attended the funeral services included: Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Kathman, Cunningham, Kan. Max Gerleman, Decorah, Ia., Mrs. Elmer Person, and Mrs. Mamie Jankord, and Eilene of Watertown, S. D., Mrs. Gilbert Schrandt and Misses Amelia, Wilhelmina, Grace, and Aldea Schrandt of Plainview, Kan., Mrs. Geo. Schramm, Mrs. Don Quinn, Mrs. Marvin Oxley, and Mrs. and Mrs. Albert Mazour, Hastings; Miss Irene Hoelting, Grand Island, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Denning, Roughton, Ia., Mr. and Mrs. Al Pohlmeier and family of Beatrice, Nebr."
