Read More	The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, December 2, 1943; pg. 1 Eliza Kathryn Clifton, daughter of Wyatt and Mary Frances Clifton, was born in Mercer County, Missouri, August 5th, 1865; departed this life at Nelson, Nebraska, November 23, 1943, at the age of 78 years, 3 months and 18 days. In the year 1880 she was united in marriage to John Milton Cox at Princeton, Missouri. To this union three children were born - two of these having passed away in death. Mr. Cox also passed away in the year 1884. In 1889 she was married to Albert E. Thurber at Leon, Iowa. They settled in Harrison County, Missouri, for a few years, coming to Nebraska and locating in Nuckolls County in 1892, and continued to live here since that year. Mr. Thurber preceded his wife on January 15, 1935. To this second union six children were born. They are: Mrs. Esta Chown of Kansas City, Kansas; Roy Thurber of Nelson, Nebr.; Mrs. Fern Ruhga of Oak; Mrs. Edna M. Sperry of Superior, Nebr.; Thomas of Kansas City, Mo.; Orville of Van Nay, California; and Glen of Palisade, California. She was also a fond step mother to Walter and Oscar Thurber of Nelson and Mrs. Corey Zeiger of Wallace, Nebr. She loved these with a true mother's love. She leaves two sisters and one brother. The brother lives in Grundy County, Mo., and the sisters live - one in Kansas City, Mo., and the other in Pueblo, Colorado. There are also 32 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was a woman who enjoyed her home and her children. She was a good neighbor and friend. She was a member of a Methodist church near Trenton, Missouri. The funeral was held in the Nelson Methodist Church Friday afternoon at 2:30. Mrs. Ross Clem and Mrs. Wilbur Portwood sang with Mrs. Nova Hite at the piano. The pallbearers were Fred Wullwnwaber, Claude Flower, Joe VanValin, Bert Carman and Emil Klawitter. The body was laid to rest in the Nelson cemetery (sic). All the children and their families were present for the funeral services, and one grand daughter from the western part of the State. Two step grandsons: Marvin Thurber from Camp Fannin, Texas, and Archie Thurber, who are both in the armed forces, arrived too late for the funeral.
