Description	:	Fern Thurber, daughter of Albert E. and Katherine Thurber, was born on March 31, 1893, at Alma, Nebr., and departed this life at her home in Oak Monday, Nov. 17, at the age of 65 years. The family moved to Mercer County, Mo., going by covered wagon when Fern was only a baby. Other children were four brothers, Roy, now deceased; Tom of Kansas City, Mo.; Orville of Van Nuys, Calif; and Glen of Boise, Ida., and a sister, Mrs. Myrtle Sperry of Superior. The family returned later to Nuckolls County, Nebr., and Fern was married to William Ruhga on Jan. 18, 1911 at Nelson. Five children were born to this union, Mrs. Fred Kotas (Hazel) of Davenport, Mrs. Leonard Scroggin (Cleo) and Mrs. William Ferguson (Lola) both of Oak, Alfred of Aurora, Colo., and Mrs. Don Taylor (Elaine) of Glendale, Calif. Mrs. Ruhga was a member of the U.B. Church, located five miles north of Nelson, of the Kings Daughters organization, of Circle 2 and the Royal Neighbor Lodge of Oak. Those left to mourn her loss beside the husband, children, brothers and sister are nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the Oak First Community Church on Thursday afternoon, Nov. 20, with Rev. Robert Zink in charge. Mrs. Rex Sykes and Miss Lana Sykes sang "In the Garden" and "God Understands," accompanied by Mrs. J.L. Scroggin at the piano. Casket-bearers were G.W. Schmitt, Carl Striggow, Vern Hutchinson, James Buresh, James Moore and Claude Gillan. Interment was in the Nelson cemetery (sic). The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, November 20, 1958.
