OBITUARY Monticello Express 29 January 1913 Mrs. Katherine Miller, the wife of Nicholas Miller, died last Monday morning, the 30th ult, at the age of 80 years, 7 months and 26 days, after a long and lingering illness. Mrs. Miller had been a resident of Jones County since 1871. Her maiden name was Katherine Even. She was married to Nicholas Miller, at Galena, Illinois in 1857. When they came to Jones County they first settled at Castle Grove, and during the last ten years were residents of Monticello. Mrs. Miller was twice married. By her first husband she had two children, Nicholas Kaiser of Hastings, NE and Mrs. August Gudenkauf of Worthington. By Mr. Miller she had nine children viz: Messrs, Nicholas, Matt, George, Frank and Ed Miller and Mesdames Susanna Kurt, Katherine Turner, Margaret Kurt, and John Miller deceased. Mrs. Miller was born at Alltrier, Luxembourg, Germany, June 3, 1832. She came to America in 1849. In addition to her children, Mrs. Miller numbered among her descendants 46 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. The surviving husband is 85 years old. Mrs. Miller was a fine woman of domestic virtues and an abundance of common sense which is reflected in the good citizenship and prosperity of her children. She had been a member of the Roman Catholic Church since childhood. The funeral services wre conducted and Mass was celebrated at the church of the Sacred Heart, this morning, by the pastor, Rev. John McCormick. The pallbearers were, John Miller, Nicholas Gudenkauf, Michael Gudenkauf, George Kurt, John Kurt, and Edward Kurt, six of the grandsons of the decedent.
