Kruckenberg, Katharina (Almer) Kraft, The Staats-Anzeiger, 18 January 1927 Blue Grass , Morton County, North Dakota 31 December, 1927 OBITUARY (English Translation) : "Once we learned by telephone on 23 November at 3 p.m. of the death of our mother-in-law, who was married to Jakob Kruckenberg in her second marriage, our two sons and their wives got ready and set out early on the morning of 24 December to the home of the deceased 40 miles from here to attend the funeral. On Monday evening they returned and asked me to share with the Staats-Anzeiger the sad news, which will be read in the entire world. The above-mentioned pilgrim on earth was taken by cold death. At suppertime she still had a good appetite and said to her [family], that she didn't feel well. After the meal she went out to the yard with her daughter. When they returned to the house, she fell suddenly to the floor. Since [the daughter] couldn't lift her by herself, she hurried to the father, whom she, unfortunately, couldn't find. Then she called for help to the grandfather who lived in the same yard. Hardly had all arrived when she asked those who were present to forgive her, and after these words, she gave up the spirit [i.e., died]. And that was at 6 p.m. And here we have to call out: People, put your house in order, for you must die! Yes, we should be ready at any time, for we know not when death will reach out its bony fingers for us. The Savior has already said to his disciples: In my Father's house are many mansions, which are prepared for you whom the Father loves. Therefore, we should strive, through love and good works to acquire such a mansion. The departed was the wife of Johann Kraft [son of] Jakob, from the colony of Worms in South Russia. She was called Katharina and was the daughter of Georg Almer. She reached the age of 44 yeas, 10 months, and some days. She is mourned by five children, four daughters and a son. Of these, three are married, namely: Pauline with Eduard Lennick, Bertha with Peter Lennick, and Lydia with Otto Wiedrich. Emma and Johann are still living with their stepfather Georg Kruckenberg. She is also mourned by her husband and some sons from the second marriage. Her second marriage only lasted six years and some months. On 26 December the mortal remains were committed to the bosom of the earth. The local pastor spoke words of comfort to the survivors. May she rest in peace.
