Within four years she has two children by Michael Harmon and has left him, moving back to her parents' home near Bremen, Illinois. 1850 census. Cholera outbreak that year; 1/3 of deaths due to cholera. Catherine marries William Morris Jr less than a year later in Feb. 1853. William Morris has lost his wife August 1852. Given that cholera kills most of their victims in July and August, it is quite conceivable that they have both lost spouses due to this plague. William needs mother for his four children aged 10 through 1. She is age 26, he is age 34. Over the next seven years, they have four children together, only two surviving to adulthood. Then in June1864 at age 45, William dies, cause of death unremittant fever. At age 37, Catherine is divorced once, widowed twice, with a house full of children. She lives until age 78, dying in 1905 in Nebraska where she lives with her daughter, Emma Murphy Wilson. Contributor: David Shaw (48646632) Katherine Anderson Caudle was the daughter of Sampson "Anderson" Caudle and Nancy Slater, born May 1828 in Randolph County, Illinois. Sampson Caudle was the son of Gregory Caudle and Catherine Anderson. Catherine was the daughter of Joseph Anderson, who was born in Virginia and who was part of George Rogers Clark's Kaskaskia invasion during the American Revolution in 1777-78. After the war, Anderson returned to KY or TN where he gathered his family and returned to Randolph County by 1780. His was one of the very earliest families in Randolph County and granted 400 acres. Katherine was one of 7 siblings, 3 sisters and 3 brothers who all who fought in the Civil War. Katherine first married Michael Harmon on August 6, 1846. The couple had 2 sons, Jacob (1848-1911) and Michael (1849-1854). Harmon and Katherine separated and in January 1851 she married Lawson J. Murphy, a widower, brickyard owner and County Commissioner from Tilden. The couple had one daughter, Emma L. Murphy (1852-1923) before Lawson Murphy died sometime in 1852. Katherine next married widower William Morris, Jr., also of Randolph County, and a farmer with 3 children (George, William & James) in February 1853. William and Katherine had 5 more children: Margaret A. (1854-1907), Andrew J. (1855-1864), Nancy J. (1859- ), Richard A. (1861-1936), Ida C. (1864-1949). Ida was born after William Morris died of an unremittent fever on June 16, 1864. Note: While Cholera was endemic in Randolph County for decades, 1852 and 1854 were particularly cruel years. Katherine's husband Lawson Murphy died in 1852 and William Morris' wife, Catherine Colbert died in August 1852. Both William and Katherine had families to care for and were in immediate need of spouses, marrying in 1853. After William's death, Katherine finished raising the children from 4 marriages, while managing the land which her sons continued to farm. Katherine spent the majority of her life in Randolph County, Illinois except for the 5 years she lived in Missouri with either Jacob, Nancy or Margaret. She was visiting her daughter Emma Murphy Wilson in Clarks, Merrick, Nebraska when she died on Dec 2, 1905. Katherine was 76 years old and had remained a widow since Morris. She is buried in the Wilson Cemetery with Emma's family in Clarks, a small prairie town. She was a life-long member of the Presbyterian Church. Carole Morris Pancake (49421609)
