Kate Irwin, eldest daughter of Senator Joseph and Harriet (Rust) Irwin, was born in Shelbyville, Mo., July 2, 1855 and continued to reside there until she was fourteen years of age, when her parents moved to Clarence, Mo., where she spent the remainder of her life. She was married to William Kemper, of Shelbyville, Mo., on September 30, 1875. To this union four children were born, all of whom lived to mature years: Grace Ellwood, wife of Wm. L. She was married to William Kemper, of Shelbyville, Mo., on September 30, 1875. To this union four children were born, all of whom lived to mature years: Grace Ellwood, wife of Wm. L. Hamrick, Ella K., (now deceased), wife of Walter M. Pritchard, and Irwin and Bess, both now deceased. On February 6, 1939 she fell in her bedroom and fractured her hip and notwithstanding she had received the very best of medical attention and nursing she was unable to survive the shock and passed away Sunday, March 26, 1939. She leaves to mourn her loss one daughter, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren, and a host of friends. In her daily life she was a lovable character and no recognized by every one who knew her. She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, and in early life she was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church South, and at the time of her going was a member of the Center Street Methodist church where her funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock with the Rev. J. E. Isbell officiating. Interment was in the Maplewood cemetery beside her husband.
