Description	:	Katherine Mary Nickol Hansen passed away in Sun City, Arizona September 1, 2017 at the age of 98. Katherine (Katie) was born on the farm near Powers Lake, ND to John and Matilda Anderson Nickol on March 13, 1919. She graduated from Kenmare High School and married Ervin W. Hansen on May 3, 1939. They made their home in Norma, ND where they farmed and raised three daughters. Katherine (Katie) was born on the farm near Powers Lake, ND to John and Matilda Anderson Nickol on March 13, 1919. She graduated from Kenmare High School and married Ervin W. Hansen on May 3, 1939. They made their home in Norma, ND where they farmed and raised three daughters. When Katie and Ervin moved to Kenmare she was involved in many church activities at Nazareth Lutheran Church including various committees and teaching Sunday school for many years. Katie was on the National Board of Directors for the American Lutheran Church, which involved trips to Minneapolis and traveling to Africa as a mission observer. After her return from Africa she dedicated many hours to obtaining funds to build water wells and gather supplies for the missions in Africa. She gave presentations at churches, schools, and various events. She was a women’s guard for the Kenmare jail and juvenile probation officer. She was active in politics and sat on the election board for many years. Katie was involved in Home Makers and varies group around Kenmare. Katie and Ervin enjoyed traveling and visiting relatives in various states and countries. When Ervin’s health was failing, they moved to assisted living residents in Minot. After Ervin’s death Katie moved to Sun City, Arizona. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017, at Zion Lutheran Church at 11:00 am Minot, ND. Grave side interment will be at Trinity Church cemetery, rural Kenmare, ND at 5:30 PM, September 16, 2017. All are welcome to attend. Katie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers and two sister(Reuben Nickol of Scio, Oregon; Aubrey Nickol, Oregon; Raymond Nickol of Powers Lake, ND; Helen Nickol Vogel Anderson of Kenmare, ND and Elizabeth Nickol Rasmussen, Carson City, NV). She is survived by her three daughters: Betty Kay (Jerry) Manion, Boise, Idaho; Marie Mohler, Sun City, AZ; and Judith (Colman) Quill, Minot, ND. Ten Grandchildren: David (Paula) Mangum, Boise, ID; Jon (Crystal) Mangum, Oak Harbor, WA; Lisa (Ken Halloway) Manion Boise, ID; Zane (Brenda) Mohler, Lawton, OK; Tracy (Wendy) Mohler, Lawton, OK; KyLynn Mohler, Fargo, ND; Todd Mohler, Gastonia , NC; Lynnette (Joe Methner) Hysjulien, El Mirage, AZ; Rachel (Lee) Schnieder, Pickering, Ohio and Joe Zimmer, Indo, CA. She also has eighteen great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren, plus a number of nieces and nephews.
