Funeral services for Kathryn Rieniets were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Monticello, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery. The Rev. Robert E. Slade officiated at the services. Kathryn Gerdes was born July 23, 1913, in Castle Grove Township, Jones County; the daughter of G.H. and Wilhelmina Poppe Gerdes. She attended the rural schools near her home and later attended Monticello schools where she graduated in 1931. She then taught in the rural schools of Jones County. Kathryn Gerdes and Frederick Rieniets were married March 31, 1932, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. They made their home on a farm in Lovell Township, where they farmed until 1974. Frederick died May 3, 1984. Kathryn was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, where she was the first child baptized Aug. 17, 1913. She later confirmed her faith there in 1927. Kathryn was also a member of the Monticello Garden Club. She is survived by three children, Judith Schwake of Summer, Gary of Dubuque and Warren of Monticello; six grandchildren; a brother, Paul Gerdes of Monticello; and two sisters, Lorna Preston and Lois Mowrey, both of Monticello. Casket bearers were Phil Gerdes, Stuart Gerdes, Tom Preston, Mark Mowrey, George H. Bohlken, Lyle Behrends, Raymond Tuetken and Theodore Freese. Goettsch Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
