Read More	Katheryn Ray was born in Hickman, Kentucky, to R.A. Smith and Mary Rainey Smith (Casey) on September 7, 1925, and passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at the age of 93 ½ years old. She was married to the late Felix Ray. Katheryn had seven children and raised one grandson. She spent her years helping Felix on the farm while raising eight children in Dorena, Missouri. She made clothes for her own children and later got a job at the garment factory in East Prairie, Missouri. Katheryn also worked at Brown Shoe factory in Charleston, Missouri for many years. She enjoyed gardening and canning, quilting and making clothes for the kids. She had formerly attended the Dorena Methodist Church. After moving back to Kentucky to be closer to her mother, the two worked together at different garment factories. Katheryn and her mother also bought a quilting machine and began making quilts for others in the Fulton, Kentucky area. Katheryn and her mother Mary were more like best friends than mother and daughter. They lived next door to each other. They enjoyed traveling together. The two of them would drive to Oklahoma to visit Katheryn’s brother, Robert Smith, and would drive to many other states to visit Katheryn’s children. When either of them was ready to go somewhere, they simply told the other to “pack a bag” and off they went, just the two of them. Katheryn was always there for the eight children she raised and her nine brothers-in-law. They were like her own brothers and some of them as if they were her own children. Katheryn loved being a part of the “Ray” clan. That was “Her” family until her last day. Katheryn Ray is survived by her four legged, child-like fur baby, Sweetie; and five daughters, Marrian Skinner of Dalton, Georgia, Katie Haney (Tom) of Alhambra, Illinois, Frances Haddock (Joel) of East Prairie, Missouri, Mary Haynes (Dennis) of Staunton, Illinois and Joyce McCarthy (Don) of Clayton, Georgia; Tommy Lynn Ray (the grandson she raised) of Fulton, Kentucky; two half-sisters, Kathy Carol Godfrey of Fulton, Kentucky and Kennetha Adams (Johnny) of Fulton, Kentucky; two brothers-in-law, Bobby Ray of Clinton, Kentucky and Charlie Ray (Brenda) of Columbus, Kentucky; three sisters-in-law, Shirley Ray and Patsy Ray of East Prairie and Brenda Ray of Kentucky. Also surviving are seventeen grandchildren and many great grandchildren and several great-great grands; a great friend, Cathy Brewer; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, Felix Ray, Katheryn was preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law, Ed and Tress Ray; two sons, James “Jimmy” Eugene Ray and Felix Leroy “Bubba” Ray; one brother, Robert “Junior” Smith; four grandchildren, six brothers-in-law, Manny, Blain, Joe, Bill, Merl and Bud; and six sisters-in-law, Gladys Love, Imogene Ray, Ruth Ray, Doris Ray, Jessaline Ray and Marilyn Ray. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. until time of funeral service at 12 noon on Saturday, April 20, 2019, at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie, with Bro. Martin Lucas officiating. Burial will follow in Dogwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joel Haddock, Jr., Josh Haynes, Tommy Ray, Johnny McCarthy, Dennis Haynes, Jr. and Dalton Haddock.
