Burial was in the Mason City Cemetery. ------------------------ KATHLEEN A. BURNS Kathleen Annette Burns, age 55, died Friday, April 1, 2005 at Jennie Melham Medical Center in Broken Bow. Funeral services were 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 4, 2005 at the First Baptist Church in Mason City, with Rev. John Lewis and Victor Crawford officiating. Burial was in the Mason City Cemetery. Visitation was Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. at Govier's with family greeting friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Kathleen Burns was born Jan. 12, 1950 at Oxford to LaVerne and Marna (Ziebell) Hermes. She was baptized Feb. 15, 1950 at Trinity Lutheran in Arapahoe and confirmed June 14, 1964. She started grade school at the Lutheran Parochial School and then attended Arapahoe Public School graduating in 1968. She then attended Kearney Beauty School. On Feb. 14, 1971, she was married to Eugene Burns at Arapahoe Trinity Lutheran Church. They made their home in Mason City. She was a member of the Baptist Church in Mason City, the American Baptist Women, Community Service Club, the Mason City Library Board, and Nebraska Community Improvement Program. Burns was a very good pianist, playing for church services. She was an expert seamstress, and many people in the community would bring their clothes for alteration. She loved to go cruising in their classic car. She loved to shoe shop and was known to her family as a connoisseur of shoes. Most of all she loved her family, especially her two granddaughters Amber and Rilee. Survivors include her husband, Eugene, of Mason City; daughter Britt (Bill) Howard, of Litchfield; granddaughters Amber and Rilee Howard of Litchfield; parents LaVerne and Marna Hermes of Arapahoe; one brother, Dick (Janet) Hermes of Arapahoe; one sister, Cynthia (Gary) Pfeiffer of Worland, Wyo.; mother-in-law, Lucile Burns of Mason City; sisters-in-law Janet (Ed) Spencer of Mason City and Jolene Brandt of Kearney; nieces and nephews Robyn (Dennis) O'Roark of Overland Park, Kans.; Ryan Hermes of Arapahoe, Justin (Katrina) Pfeiffer and children, Miranda and Abby Pfeiffer of Worland, Wyo.; James Pfeiffer and son, Kaden of Worland, Wyo., Stephanie (Phil) Piper and children Spencer, Nicholas, Natasha, Katelin and Dani of Kearney and Kari Brandt and son Quincy of Kearney; Mindi Brandt and son Jayven of Kearney and Tyler Brandt of Kearney. She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Joel Burns and brother-in-law Charles Brandt. Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow was in charge of arrangements.
