She is survived by her daughter Grace Walker Taylor of Clarksville and her son Gene Edward "Ted" Walker and his wife Nancy of Buffalo Junction. She has five grandchildren, Katie Wagstaff, Kimberly Rush, Pamela Walker, Lynn Griffith, and Alex Walker and eight Great-grandchildren. She owned Dutchie's Beauty Shop and later operated The Twin Shop with her twin sister, Pauleen Wootton. She sold encyclopedias and wrote for the Richmond News Leader and Mecklenburg Sun newspapers. She worked for Senator Ruff at the Brentwood Manor Furniture Store. She made Clarksville news in 1986 when she became the town's first elected councilwoman. In 1990 she was the first female to be elected as Mayor of Clarksville and she served for 6 years in that office. Her many volunteer activities included serving on the board of the Clarksville Area Public Library. She served as past Worthy Matron of the Clarksville Chapter 145 of the Order of the Eastern Star. The Clarksville Lake Country Chamber of Commerce voted her "Citizen of the Year" in 1990 and she received its Lifetime Achievement Award in 1993. In 2003 this award was renamed "Kathleen Walker Lifetime Achievement Award" in her honor. On Sunday, February 5, 2012, at 1 p.m. visitation for family and friends will be held at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home, 703 Virginia Avenue, Clarksville, VA 23927, and service will be conducted at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Gravel Hill Church Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.wclfh.com.
