Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Silver Creek, with the Rev. Tamara Holtz officiating. Burial will be in the Silver Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, all at the church. McKown Funeral Home in Columbus is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Schott was born May 12, 1923, at Rising City to John M. and Myrtle (Baker) White. She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle P. Schott, on April, 27 1984. Survivors of the immediate family include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Susan and Mike Bish and Kathy Schott, all of Grand Island, and Judy and Tom Kapellen of Plymouth, Wis.; and a sister, Norma Jean Atchison of Tulsa, Okla. Other survivors include three granddaughters, Jamie Bish, Katy Kapellen and Melissa Dvorak. She was a 1941 graduate of Silver Creek High School and graduated from Kearney State College, where she was a sorority member, member of the marching band and first flutist in the Kearney Symphony Orchestra. Kathleen was a school teacher at Chapman for five years, teaching junior high and instrumental music; she was also the band director. On Jan. 19, 1947, Kathleen White was united in marriage to Merle P. Schott at Silver Creek. She was a resident of the Silver Creek community all her life. Kathleen taught grade school and grade school music at Silver Creek for a few years. She assisted her husband in selling seed corn for 19 years. She was a secretary at Silver Creek Public Schools for 30 years. She was a very active member of the Silver Creek First United Methodist Church. She had been the church organist for more than 60 years, served on the council on ministries and was a member of the W.S.C.S She was the choir director and helped with Sunday school for more than 60 years. Kathleen was a member of the Silver Chapter 290 of Order of Eastern Star at Silver Creek, where she held the position of worthy matron and had held the office of organist for 48 years. She served as a trustee on the Merrick County Foundation for four years. She enjoyed socializing at her bridge club, senior citizens, and Bible study. Kathleen was a very talented musician and played the organ and piano for numerous events in the community, including weddings, funerals and Christmas cantatas. She loved Nebraska football and loved to play the Nebraska fight song. Also preceding her in death are her father, John M. White, in 1967 and her mother, Myrtle White, in 1995.
