Kathryn Esther Salge was born on February 8, 1947, the daughter of Roland and Josephine (Homan) Harmening in Waverly, Iowa. She graduated from Waverly High School in 1965 and then attended Wartburg College, from 1965 until 1970. On May 24, 1970 she was united in marriage to Rev. Robert H. Kathryn Esther Salge was born on February 8, 1947, the daughter of Roland and Josephine (Homan) Harmening in Waverly, Iowa. She graduated from Waverly High School in 1965 and then attended Wartburg College, from 1965 until 1970. On May 24, 1970 she was united in marriage to Rev. Robert H. Salge at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waverly. Kathy was a Pastor’s wife, joined her husband on vicarage to Immanuel Lutheran, Lincoln, IL; Saints Peter & Paul Lutheran Parish in Brunsville and rural Merrill, IA for 7 ½ years; St. Peter Eldorado for 9 years, St. Paul (Siegel), Tripoli for 11 years during which time her husband served TAALC Circuit rider pastor at Ascension Lutheran, Waterloo and Redeemer, West Union; and St. Peter Lutheran Church & School, Sacramento, CA for 16 years. The couple moved back to Waverly in July of 2015. Kathy enjoyed bible studies and music. Survivors are her husband, Rev. Robert Salge of Waverly, Iowa; son Grant Salge of Elk Grove, CA; daughter, Grace (Chad) Kalkbrenner of Waverly, Iowa; two grandchildren, Noah and Alyson Kalkbrenner and two sisters, Lois Fredrick of Holmen, Wisconsin and Carol Herman of Waverly, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Marion Hesse and two brothers, Wayne and Edwin Harmening. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 10:30 am at Ascension Lutheran Church, 2211 Maynard Ave., Waterloo, Iowa with Pastors Duane Lindberg and Randolph McHone officiating. Burial will follow in Harlington Cemetery in Waverly, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 1st from 4:30 pm until 7:00 pm at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly, Iowa and also an hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Salge family for a later designation Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home of Waverly, Iowa is assisting the Salge family with arrangements.
