Read More	Mrs. Kathryn (Kromminga) Dirksen May 1, 1887 January 9, 1958 Mrs. Kathryn Dirksen, second eldest daughter of Reemt and Frances (Bleeker) Kromminga, was born May 1, 1887 near Emden, Illinois. She died at her home in Everly at 10:30 o'clock, Thursday night, January 9. Death was attributed to a heart attack. Her early life was spent on a farm in Illinois and she received her education in a rural school nearby. In 1916 she came to Iowa to live with her sister and it was here she met her husband. On December 20, 1917 she was united in marriage with Steve Dirksen, the ceremony being performed by the late Rev. J.M. DeVries, Pastor of the First Reformed Church near Everly. This union was blessed with three children; Oliver, at home, Arlene, (Harold) Thorberg of Petersburg, Nebraska and Evelyn, (Clifford) Murray of Everly. There are six grandchildren; Donald, Donna and Allen Thorberg; Raymond, James and David Murray. Surviving besides the immediate family are two sisters; Sophie (Ed) Bleeker, Spencer, and Hilda (Wm) Ringering of Everly; two brothers, Edward Kromminga of Cornell, Illinois and Oliver Kromminga of New Holland, Illinois and a host of relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and four brothers. Mr. and Mrs. Dirksen farmed in the Everly community until 1925 when they moved to Fostoria. In 1941 they moved to Everly where they have since resided. They observed their fortieth wedding anniversary on December 20, but at that time Mrs. Dirksen was in Iowa City for a checkup, so a belated celebration was held on Christmas Day with their three children and families present. At an early age Mrs. Dirksen united with the Zion Methodist Church in Emden, Illinois. At the time of her death she eas a member of Methodist Church in Everly and had recently been made a life member of the W.S.C.S. of that church. Funeral services were held Monday, January 13 at 1:30 p.m. at the Methodist Church at Everly with Rev. Denton Erickson, Rev. George Brighton and Rev, Peter Yff officiating. Pallbearers; Theodore Dykehouse, Merle Rowles, George Beving, George D. Heikens, John Wieben and B.W. Meyers Burial was in the First Reformed Cemetery. Warner Funeral Home of Spencer was in charge of arrangements. Spencer Daily Reporter Friday, January 17, 1958
