Read More	The Osceola Sentinel Tribune, Osceola, Iowa May 27, 1999, Page 3 OBITUARIES KEITH EDWARD WEAKLEND Keith Edward Weaklend, son of Edward Gillette and Ona Lupricia Roe Weaklend, was born Aug. 19, 1912, near Woodburn in Clarke County and died at Clarke County Hospital on Feb. 11, 1992, at age 80. He was the third child of a family of five, three brothers and one sister. He married Eula Inez Martin on Dec. 17, 1938, in Eldon Mo. The couple were the parents of a son, Carl Edward. After spending his early life in Clarke County he moved to Kansas City, Mo. where he worked at Ford Motor Company and Trans World Airlines. He entered the service in 1943 and served in World War II as a flight engineer. Mr. and Mrs. Weaklend moved back to Iowa in 1951 to the home where he was born near Woodburn. There he farmed a few years before moving to Lucas County. The couple moved to their present home in Clarke County where he farmed until his death. Mr. Weaklend was a good neighbor and friend, always willing to lend a helping hand. He was a past 4-H leader, member of the Clarke County Fair Board and Extension Council and served as superintendent of the sheep barn for the county fair. Mr. Weaklend was an avid Hunter and enjoyed many hours hunting coyotes with his cronies until his health failed. Then he spent those hours on his two-way radio directing the hunt. He liked to drive around the "block" checking the crops and visiting with his neighbors. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and three brothers, Glennie, Kenneth and Everette. Surviving Mr. Weaklend are his wife, Eula; son Carl; granddaughter, Chris Mercer, sister, Daleth Haltom and her husband, Raymond; sister-in-law, Vera Weaklend; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends. Services for Mr. Weaklend were held at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola at 2 p.m. Saturday, Pastor Gearold McElwee of Lucas officiating. Organist, Belva White and soloist, Emil Rinderspacher performed The Old Rugged Cross and Beyond the Sunset. Casket bearers were Kevin Vanderlinden, Jerry Webb, Kenny Webb, Ed Swaney, John Webb and Bill Voris. Honor bearers were Kenny Winters, Bob Byers, Lyle Saddoris, Dale Stephenson, Ron Fouche and Merrill Rinner. Interment was in Bethel Chapel Cemetery in Clarke County.
