Osceola Sentinel, Osceola, Iowa March 21, 1946, Page 8 Mrs. Gillette Weaklend Ona Lupricia, daughter of Andrew and Olive Roe, was born in West Virginia, March 12, 1884, and passed away at her home near Woodburn, Clarke county, Iowa, March 10, 1946, at the age of 61 years, 11 months and 28 days. She moved with her parents to Lucas county, Iowa in 1886, later to Clarke county where she grew to womanhood and has spent the remainder of her life. She was one of a family of five children, four sisters and one brother. Her father, mother, brother and two sisters preceded her in death. February 3, 1904, she was united in marriage to Edward Gillette Weaklend, and to this union were born five children — four sons and one daughter, namely Glennie Roe of Chariton, Iowa, Loren Kenneth of Woodburn, Keith Edward of Kansas City, Mo., Ona Daleth Haltom of Woodburn, and Everett Stanley at home. Keith served in the service of his country thirty - three months, in the Army Air Force, his army air base being in Alaska some twenty-one months. She was converted and baptized and joined the United Brethren church when a young girl. Having lived in her present home the past thirty - eight years she has attended and been a faithful worker in the Christian Union church at Bethel Chapel. She has known the trials and strife of establishing a home and rearing a family, but she and her husband together reached that goal. Mrs. Weaklend had been in failing health the ast ten years, her last illness extended over a period of many months, which was marked with intense suffering, often almost beyond human endurance, but which she bore very patiently. All that medical aid and loving hands could do was done, but to no avail, so God saw fit to relieve her of her suffering and called her to her heavenly home. She was tenderly cared for by her devoted husband and children and the companions, all of whom were at her bedside when she passed away. She was deeply devoted to her home and loved ones; thus the husband has lost a devoted companion, the children and grandchildren a loving mother and grandmother, and the community a good neighbor and friend. May all that was best and beautiful in her be benediction and comfort to the bereft family in the years ahead. Those left to mourn her passing are the companion, himself in frail health, the above named children, also three daughters-in-law, Velma McKnight Weaklend, Vera Black Weaklend and Eula Martin Weaklend; one son-in-law, Raymond P. Haltom; one sister, Mrs. Clesta Wilkinson of Estherville, Iowa, two nieces also of Estherville, and two nephews, Joe Price of Des Moines, Iowa and Roy Price of California, and many other near relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted from Bethel Chapel church on Wednesday, March 13, 1946 at 2:30 p. m. by Rev. J. W. Garbison, pastor. Music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Ben Lynn. They sang "The Old Rugged Cross," "Going Down the Valley" and "I won't Have to Cross the Jordon Alone." The pallbearers were: Frank Baum, Sam Baum, Robert Black, Raymond Eubank, Keith Voris and Gerald Crooks. The body was laid to rest in Bethel Chapel cemetery. W. L. Forster Funeral service was in charge. Silent and sad is the little home, Where our Mother used to stay. But sadder still are our aching hearts Since our Mother went away. But we know her suffering is over, She is free from all earthly pain. And in that bright and happy land We will meet our mother again. Yes our Mother has gone before, To that happy land on high. But we can meet her on that other shore Where we will never say goodbye. But we will love her memory dearly, Although her form will turn to dust, For we know that in the spirit She will still be near us. And although our hearts are ach- ing And our tears will often fall.
