Krause Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church by Pastor Doenzer on May 17, 1931. He has been a long time member of St. John Lutheran Church, Chester, NE. He lived his early years on farms between Home City, KS, and Marysville, KS. He attended rural schools, and had an elementary education. He was united in marriage to Gladys D. Johannes on January 26, 1939 in Marysville, KS. In their early married years during the depression, Keith did various jobs. He farmed with is father; operated a service station near Beattie, KS; and helped build a new theater in Junction City, KS. In 1941 they moved to Superior, NE, where Keith worked for Hill Oil Company in the service station and also began driving semi-trailer trucks. In 1942 the family moved to Chester, NE, where Keith was employed by Farmers Non Stock Co-op for 15 years. The Johnson family has resided in Chester since then. Born to this union were four children: Janet Kay, James Ray, Jerry Lee, and Joyce Sue. He loved the village of Chester, and all the people of the community. The children were all educated in St. John Lutheran School and the Chester-Hubbell-Byron Public Schools. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Gladys of the home; Janet and her husband Ray Ritterling of Byron; Jerry and his wife Pam of Shawnee, KS; and Joyce and her husband Robert Boyes of Geneva, NE; three sisters, Fern and husband Matt Eck, Topeka, Grace and husband, Marion Burton, Marysville, KS, and Glenda and husband George Shotwell, Wichita, KS; two brothers, Galen and wife Maurine, Dorchester, NE, and Winton C. and wife Gail, Horton, KS; one sister-in-law, Elaine and husband, Howard Madsen, Superior; and Wm. D. Johannes and wife Clara, Lincoln; 11 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. Preceding him in death was his son, James R. Johnson, who died May 17, 1989; his parents, John and Alice Johnson; and his parents-in-law, William H. and Ida M. Johannes. Keith was a loving husband and father, and very proud of his four children, 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Keith suffered a heart attack while driving for Houston Truck Lines where he was employed as an owner-operator for more than 21 years. This forced him into early retirement. As a hobby he serviced and restored lawn mowers for the last few years. He will be missed by all who knew him, as he was a friendly and kind person. Services were held on August 28, 1992, 2 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Chester, conducted by Pastor William Larsen. Mrs. Alvin Poppe was organist. Casket bearers were Brad Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Jason Johnson, Wes Johnson, Chad Boyes, Nicholas Boyes and Kyle Boyes. Honorary casket bearers were Shari (Ritterling) Lawton, Vicki Ritterling, Stacy Johnson and Angela Johnson. Interment was made at St. John Lutheran Cemetery.
