Read More	One Borger man was killed and another injured at 9:15 a.m. Saturday in a water well accident which occurred on the Johnson Oil Lease, north of Herring Water Station and northwest of Stinnett. Kenneth D. Jones, 34, 1031 Bowman, a foreman employed by Wes-Tex Construction Co., Inc., was struck in the back of the head by a suspended metal object which slipped and fell 25 feet as Jones was stooped over working on a water well. The metal object, in the terms of oil field workers, is called a "horse's head." Also injured by the falling metal object was George Phillips, 36, Borger, who suffered a five-inch laceration to the fore part of the calf on his right leg. He is a Wes-Tex employe. Both Jones and Phillips were rushed to North Plains Hospital in Borger by Stinnett Community Ambulance. Jones was taken immediately to X-ray and surgery. Jones died at 11 a.m. Saturday from the head injury. Phillips was taken to the emergency room where his leg was treated and sutured to close the deep cut. His condition was termed "satisfactory." At the hospital Phillips said they were doing some cleanup work at the water well site. He said Jones hoisted the large "horse's head" above the well himself. "I asked him if he thought it would be safe and Jones said it would be all right. Suddenly, however, it broke loose and fell," said Phillips. Phillips said he didn't know what the weight of the metal object was, only that "it was smaller than those used in the oil fields." It was learned from an oil field worker that those used on oil wells weight up to two or three tons. Funeral services for Kenneth Dwain Jones will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday from Wesley Methodist Church, the Rev. Hugh Blaylock, pastor officiating. Graveside rites will be conducted at Grenola, Kans., at 2 p.m. Tuesday, under the direction of Minton Mortuary. Jones is survived by his wife, Jean, two daughters, Cynthia, 10, and Sheryle, 4, and one son, Darrell, 7, all of the home; his mother, Mrs. Opal Jones of Grenola, Kans.; a brother, George Jones of Borger; and two sisters, Mrs. Joe Wheeler, Coffeyville, Kans., and Mrs. Jim Finaley, Manhattan, Kans. Jones was a member of Wesley Methodist Church. Casket bearers for Jones will be Lester Henderson, C.M. Dillard, Kenneth Blanke, C.E. Lassater, Don Meek and Jack Perryman.
