Description	:	The funeral for Kenneth J. "Kenny" Schafer, 79, of Scribner will be 2 p.m. Monday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Scribner. He died Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Center in Scribner. He was born Jan. 15, 1932, on the family farm in rural Scribner to Howard and Alma (Helgenberger) Schafer. "Kenny" Schafer, 79, of Scribner will be 2 p.m. Monday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Scribner. He died Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Center in Scribner. He was born Jan. 15, 1932, on the family farm in rural Scribner to Howard and Alma (Helgenberger) Schafer. He was baptized at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Scribner. He attended St. Peter's Parochial School to the eighth grade and then graduated from Scribner High School in 1949. After school, he worked for Cordes Brothers and Scribner Grain. He married Frances Meyer on April 8, 1951, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church. They farmed for 50 years south of Scribner, before moving into Scribner in 2003. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and its choir. He also held several positions within the church and worked on several different committees. Survivors include: his wife, Frances, of Scribner; daughters, Nancy (and husband, Don) Beck of Scribner, Diane Hansen of Norfolk, Karen (and husband, Kevin) Morrison of Scribner; son, Randy (and wife, Linda) Schafer of Scribner; 11 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; sister, Marlene (and husband, Robert) McClellan of Lincoln and extended family Amy (and husband, Gary) Gadeken and their daughters of Seward. Kenny was preceded in death by a son-in-law. The Rev. Bruce Schut will officiate Monday's service. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Sunday at Ludvigsen's Scribner Funeral Chapel with family present from 3-8 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Burial will be in the Scribner Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, The Lutheran Hour and the Scribner Rescue Squad.
