The accident happened in front of the Roy Whisinnand farm and Mr. Whisannand happened to see it. He rushed to the scene and Farrens told him to get his tractor to release him. He did but Farrens died shortly after. He lived long enough to tell Mr. Whisannand that a blow out on a rear tire caused the accident. The Decatur ambulance and doctor were summoned immediately but Farrens was dead before they arrived. Funeral services for the young farmer were held Saturday afternoon at the city hall in Decatur. Rev. Magyar of Lyons officiated. Interment was made in Hillcrest Cemetery. OBITUARY Kenneth Leroy Farrens, son of Roy E. and Sarah Farrens, was born near Decatur, Nebr., January 27, 1921, and passed away July 6, 1950, at the age of 29 years, 5 months and 9 days. He was united in marriage to Evonne Hightree December 3, 1948. To this union two children were born - a daughter, Linda Rae, 14 months, and a son, Larry Kenneth, born July 6,1950. All his life had been spent in the Decatur community, with the exception of a few years when his parents moved to South Dakota. He attended school in the Farrens school near Decatur and was a graduate of Decatur high school in 1938. On October 16, 1942, he entered the service of his country, and served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in the European area for three years. He participated in the battles and campaigns of Naples, Foggia, Rome, Arno, Southern France, Northern Apennines and Po Valley. He was honorably discharged Sept. 30, 1945. Upon returning home he and his brother, Lyle, farmed near Lake Quinnebaugh, after which he spent a year as postmaster in Decatur. This spring he moved to the farm of Mrs. Ella Farrens. He was a member of the V.F.W. Gleeson-Rogers Post at Decatur and was a past Post Commander of that post. He was also a member of Star Lodge No.88, A.F. & A.M. of Decatur. Memories of Kenneth will be of his cheerful and sunny disposition, his consideration of his elders, his honesty, integrity, love and pride of his family and love for his fellowmen. Loved ones left to mourn his passing are his wife and children, mother and father, brothers, Eldon and Lyle and families, Myrle and Lynn, his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. S.S. Farrens, and many other relatives and friends. Mr. Glen Miller of Decatur and Mrs. Harriet Chase of Tekamah sang "Beautiful Isle", accompanied by Mrs. Mabel Busse. Pallbearers were Kenneth Larsen, Wilbur Anderson, Leroy Newton, Paul Phelps, Roy A. Mussack and Riley Williams. The V.F.W. and Masons attended in a body. "I cannot say And I will not say That he is dead; He is just away. With a cheery smile And a wave of the hand, He has wandered into An unknown land, And left us dreaming, How very fair It needs must be, Since he lingers there. And you, oh, you, Who the wildest yearns For the old time step And the glad return, Think of him faring on As dear in the love of there As the love of here. Think of him still, As the same I say, 'He is not dead; He is just away.'"
