He passed away Sunday, November 14, 1993 at University Hospital in Denver at the age of 44. Ken received his education in Holyoke and graduated from Holyoke High School with the class of 1967. He was united in marriage to Susan E. Oltjenbruns on May 24, 1967 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Amherst. They lived in Broomfield for two years and Kenneth attended Parks School of Business. They also lived in Cassville, Missouri and later in Irving, Texas. In 1974 they moved to Amherst and lived there until moving to their present home on the farm near Amherst. Ken enjoyed playing golf, fishing, reading and sports of all kinds. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Amherst Volunteer Fire Department. He served on the Re-1J District School Board and also as a bus driver for the Holyoke schools. An avid sports fan, Ken was playing golf on the morning of February 20, 1992 when he suffered his first heart attack and survived, by the grace of God. Later visits to the hospital showed his heart greatly damaged and that to have a chance at a normal life again he would need a heart transplant. This is the life that he then pursued. As time passed, the need grew more urgent, but he always had a cheerful smile and a joke for his friends. His faith never wavered that he and his family were in God's hands. On the morning of October 20, 1993 his heart again gave him trouble and he entered University Hospital where he remained until the Lord took him home where he now has his new heart. Preceding him in death were his father and infant brother Melvin. Survivors include wife Susan and daughters Carrie and Jamie of the family home near Amherst; son Jeffrey and wife Laura of Holyoke; daughter Michelle Minor and husband Todd of New Ross, Indiana; two grandchildren; mother Ruby Roll of Holyoke; brothers Louis and wife Charlene of Amherst and Marvin and wife Anita of Republic, Missouri; sister D. Irene McCormick and husband Neal of Holyoke; father and mother-in-law Elton and Eunice Oltjenbruns of Holyoke; sisters-in-law and husbands Sally and Don Saling of Pueblo, Teri and Harold Boyd of Brandon, Florida and Jeri and Terry Jones of Titusville, Florida; and many nieces, nepheews and other relatives. Services were held Thursday, November 18, 1993 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Amherst with Rev. John Larson and Rev. Harold Rathjen officiating. Burial was in Holyoke Memorial Park.
