Description	:	Kenneth Ray Vander Lugt, 55, of Sioux Center died unexpectedly Thursday, December 27, at his residence. A funeral service was Saturday at 10:45 a.m. at the Lebanon Christian Reformed Church of rural Sioux Center. Interment was in the Lebanon Cemetery of rural Sioux Center. Read More	Kenneth Ray Vander Lugt, 55, of Sioux Center died unexpectedly Thursday, December 27, at his residence. A funeral service was Saturday at 10:45 a.m. at the Lebanon Christian Reformed Church of rural Sioux Center. Interment was in the Lebanon Cemetery of rural Sioux Center. Vander Lugt, son of Raymond and Esther (Hooyer) Vander Lugt, was born June 8, 1952, in Hudson, South Dakota. He grew up on the family farm near Lebanon. He graduated from Lebanon Christian School and Western Christian High School. His marriage to Donna Varule Kieft was postponed for two days due to the blizzard of January of 1975. He was employed by the Van Kley confinement when he was critically injured in a motorcycle accident on April 22, 1976. He survived many months of hospitalization and endured many years of subsequent pain and suffering. At the time of his death he was living in his home in Sioux Center. He lived for 20 years in Lincoln, Nebraska. He kept in touch with his "phone friends" there and retained his loyalty to the Cornhuskers even after he moved back to Iowa in 2002. He filled his days by talking on the phone, walking, listening to music, visiting with family and friends and shooting pool. He also took pleasure in his lawn and garden work. He was proud of his farm roots. He had a deep and abiding love for his Savior and was passionate about the souls of the unsaved. He spent hours reading his Bible and in Bible study with friends. Survivors are his mother, Esther Vander Lugt of Sioux Center; his siblings and their spouses, Kathy and Jack Schreurs of Sheldon, Bev Vander Lugt (Vern) of Kitteridge, Colorado, Glenn and Vicki Vander Lugt of Hawarden, Gail and Tom Dacken of Sheldon, Ryan Vander Lugt of Sioux Center and Jane and Jeff Kaptein of Mt. Vernon, Washington; his dear friend Laurie Hale of Sioux Center; nephews and nieces; uncles, aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Ray; a nephew; and his brother, Vernon, in 2006. The Vander Lugt Family prefers memorials to United Christians International, P.O.
