Description	:	Kenneth Robert King, 77, Holton, died Sept. 12, 2007, at a Topeka hospital after an illness. He was a native of Holton, attending several rural schools and graduating from Holton High School and Solano College in Fairfield, Calif. Read More	Kenneth Robert King, 77, Holton, died Sept. 12, 2007, at a Topeka hospital after an illness. He was a native of Holton, attending several rural schools and graduating from Holton High School and Solano College in Fairfield, Calif. Mr. King lived in Fairfield, California for 56 years, after serving in the U. S. Air Force from 1948 to 1952 as an automotive mechanic with the 98th Bomb Wing and an Air Force Bandsman playing French horn with the 612th and 590th bands. He retired from Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, Calif., as a branch head of the Nuclear Inspection Division with 31 years of service. He also worked for Bechtel Power Division and Pacific Gas and Electric Company in San Francisco, Calif. He and his wife returned to Holton in the fall of 2006. He was an active parishioner at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, in Fairfield, Calif., serving as parish council president, eucharistic minister and member of the parish building and finance committees, and was the church historian for 25 years, as well as serving in various other positions. He was an active member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Holton at the time of his death. He served 11 years with the Fairfield Auxiliary Police, including six years as captain of the unit. He served in the Boy Scouts of America as a Cubmaster, Scoutmaster and Assistant Explorer Advisor. He also was a Past Commander of American Legion Post 182, Past Governor of the Loyal Order of the Moose 861, Past President of the Holy Spirit School Board, Past Grand Knight of the Chief Solano Council 3585 of the Knights of Columbus and Past Faithful Navigator of the Altimira Assembly 51 of the Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus. He was a 55-year member of American Legion Post 182, a life member of the AMVETS and belonged to the National Association of Federal Retirees and American Association of Retired Persons. He also was a freelance photographer and an avid woodworker. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Gloria King; three sons, Kenneth Paul King and wife Christine, Providence, R.I., Brian King and wife Dawna and Mark King and wife Diana, all of Vacaville, Calif.; a daughter, Lisa Wilcox and husband Paul, Holton; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandsons; a brother, Charles King and wife Ethel, Holton; three sisters, Dixie Haag and husband Gale and Betty Estes and husband Ronnie, all of Holton, and Mary McAlexander and husband Harold, Denison; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Maye King; and a sister, Frances Richards. Mass of Christian burial was held Sept. 17 at St. Dominic Catholic Church, Holton, with the Rev. Richard Halvorson officiating. Burial followed in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery west of Holton.
