Read More	Kenneth Wayne Avery, entrepreneur, storyteller, avid reader, bicycle enthusiast, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away peacefully at the Eastern Star Home with family by his side. He was born on June 20, 1929, near Tulare, South Dakota to Walter and Emma (Vorderberg) Avery. He graduated from Tulare High School in 1947. He attended one semester at Northern State College, before deciding to enlist in the United States Army where he served in the Signal Corp. He married Deloris Walton on May 25, 1951. Four children were born to this union. They started their marriage in the Tulare area, then lived in Sioux Falls and went on an adventure to Seattle, Washington where their first two children were born. They returned to South Dakota and as the story was told and re-told, they drove across the country with a baby, a toddler, no air-conditioning, and an over-heated parakeet. Once back in South Dakota, Ken worked in several places before deciding to start his own business, Ken's Auto Glass & Body Repair. He went to the bank to apply for a loan. When the banker asked what he had for collateral, he said, "a wife and two kids". The loan was approved. Several years later, he went to work for the City of Redfield as a Police Officer. Ken and Deloris then re-opened the glass business, Ken's Auto Sales, Glass, and Upholstery, and worked independently until they retired. (He never really retired). Ken loved to read books and never wanted to part with any of them. He read a variety of genres and always looked forward to spending his Barnes and Noble gift-cards when he went to Sioux Falls. Friends and family in and around Redfield always knew the coffee pot was on and he had a group of regulars who visited the shop daily when it was time for coffee. He also loved to ride his bike and was seen riding all over town and out in the country. In recent years, he was reportedly riding down the middle of the road, but when questioned, he denied this vehemently. Ken was a man who welcomed the stranger with listening ears and a listening heart. He was a person that others revealed themselves to, knowing he would understand. He moved into the Eastern Star Home's Assisted Living in the spring of 2016. Ken was preceded in death by his wife, Deloris; his parents, Walter and Emma; two brothers, Eugene and Lloyd; his daughter, Pamela, and dear friend, Eunice Rude. He is survived by his children, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; twelve step-great-grandchildren, and six step-great-great-grandchildren. Kenneth "Kenny" Wayne Avery, 92, of Redfield, SD passed away Monday, November 15, 2021, at the Eastern Star Home in Redfield. Kenny's funeral service was Thursday, November 18, at the Redfield United Methodist Church. Interment with military honors was. at the Tulare Cemetery in Tulare.
