A memorial service will be held for Kent Landrum Reynolds at 11 a.m. Monday, May 14, at Tenant Funeral Home. Kent was born on Sept. 27, 1928, in a duplex on Park Street in Sterling. During his early childhood, his future wife, Joan Montgomery, lived across the street from him. They attended each other's birthday parties and were lifelong playmates from the time they were small children. When he was 7, Kent began playing the piano. Throughout junior high and high school, he also played the drums and percussion. After he graduated from Sterling High School in 1946, Kent attended the University of Colorado in Boulder. Joan Montgomery was also at CU then. Kent and Jo had their "first date" on Monday, March 8, 1948. They went to a concert at Macky Auditorium, where they heard Brahms's Fourth Symphony. After that, Kent sometimes played the piano for Joan in one of the university's practice rooms. As she watched him play, it was his hands that she first fell in love with. Kent Reynolds and Joan Montgomery were married on June 11, 1950. As a tribute to their first date, Jim Sparks played Brahms' Fourth Symphony for the wedding procession. When Kent passed his C.P.A. exam, he became his father's partner in the Reynolds and Reynolds accounting firm in Sterling. Starting in 1966, Joan worked as a secretary there and later became the office manager. As the years passed, Kent added two partners to the business, Larry Fetzer and George Edwards. Kent's and Joan's interest in music had brought them together, and it remained an integral part of their marriage and lives. For many years, they had season tickets to the symphony and stayed in Denver nearly every weekend. Their favorite thing to say was, "Well, here we go again!" Kent and Joan Reynolds were inseparable. They worked and played together day in and day out. They both enjoyed cooking, reading, bridge, and traveling. Between 1968 and 2000, they made over 20 trips to Europe and traveled extensively throughout the U.S., visiting every Trader Vic's restaurant that they could find. There was never a man who loved a woman more than Kent Reynolds loved his wife, Joan. In 2008, five years after Joan's death, Kent moved to Tacoma, Wash., to be near his younger daughter, Vicki, son-in-law Brian, and grandchildren Chris and Julie Callagan. Kent is also survived by his elder daughter, Mindy Reynolds of Denver; and sister, Ferol Miles of Sterling. Sterling Journal Advocate
