His entire lifetime was spent in Aurora where he was educated and graduated from the Aurora High School. He then attended the University of Nebraska for one year. On October 9, 1932 he was united in marriage to Blanche Hansen at Taylor, Nebraska. They had made their home in Aurora. Two sons and one daughter were born to this union. Kermit was employed in his father's grocery store for many years. He had owned the distributorship and station for Phillips Petroleum products for 25 years. After his retirement from this enterprise, he served as Hamilton County Judge for seven years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Aurora. He had also been active in community affairs, having served as Secretary to the Hamilton Community Foundation since its beginning; the Hamilton County Planning Commission; Aurora Community Industrial and Development Committee and was chairman of the Committee to operate the Bader Park near Chapman. He was a charter member of the Aurora Lions Club. His parents and one granddaughter, Jean Swanson had preceded him in death. Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife, Blanche; sons, Jack Swanson a professor at Chadron State College and James Swanson a professor at Kearney State College; daughter, Janet Swanson of Tucson, Arizona; sisters, Mrs. Helen Bannister and Mrs. Stella Margritz both of Aurora and Mrs. Dorothy Huffman of San Diego, California; four grandchildren, Jacqueline Swanson of Alliance, Julie and Jane Swanson both of Chadron and James D.
