From her childhood days as a delightful playmate for her aunts and uncles, through her happy childhood and the shy years of being a teen-ager, and throughout her adult life as a home maker and health educator, Kimberly Dee Ann Schleif Lee had an inner beauty and zest for living that made her loved by all she met. She was a good friend, a loyal sister, a wise mentor, a loving daughter, the perfect marriage partner and the object of adoration for hundreds of people across Nebraska, Colorado and the Midwest, who admired her Christian grace and courage. Her radiant smile and kind heart will be missed by all. She will be laid to rest on the high plains of south central Nebraska, on a wind-swept hill, in a cemetery filled with friends and relatives, including her father Marvin and her brother Grant. After graduating from East High School in Lincoln in 1971, Kim enrolled at the University of Nebraska where she earned a degree in health education. Between classes and after school, Kim worked at her parent's print shop in downtown Lincoln where she met her future husband Larry sweeping out the back shop. They were married in 1977 and lived in Lincoln as well as Denver, Golden and Colorado Springs during their 33 years of married life. In 1991, their daughter Alexandra Deanne was born, followed in 2001 by the birth of their son Joseph William Lee. Twelve years ago, Kim found a small lump under her arm. Declining radical surgery and traditional treatments, she instead gird herself for battle and for the next nine years she attacked her spreading breast cancer with a diet of raw fruits and vegetables, herbal supplements and other natural methods of healing. During those precious years, there were no doctor visits, no surgeries, no pain, no side effects, and she was able to add years to her prognosis. But three years ago, by unceasing effort, the evilness was finally able to overwhelm her defenses and Kim was forced to accept traditional methods of cancer treatment. She endured multiple rounds of chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. Never surrendering a single cell without a fierce battle, she fought until her death a few days ago. Besides her two children, her husband and mother, Kim also leaves a younger sister, Julie Mae Schleif, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; all feel the hole in their heart left by her absence. Those who wish to honor and remember Kim are invited to her funeral service, to be held in the College View Seventh-Day Adventist Church at 48th and Prescott in Lincoln this coming Saturday, February 5 at 3 in the afternoon. Kim loved this church building, she loved the music and the message and the people inside as well. Most of all she loved the emphasis the church placed on healthful living, on exercise and diet and fresh air. At her funeral service, her church will again echo with music and messages and the sounds of people. And after the service, Kim's friends are invited to a final healthful feast to be served in the church's lower kitchen. The burial of Kim's earthly remains will be the following day at the family plot in the Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery, north of Superior. There will be a small graveside service for all who wish to attend at 1:30 on Sunday, February 6. Her resurrection at the Second Coming is imminent.
