He was born in Lincolnshire, England on February 14, 1847, and England was his home for twenty-five years. There he received a good common school education and a thorough grounding in farm management. But in April, 1872 he emigrated to America, landing in New York City, and proceeded at once to Chicago, Ill. From there he went to Davenport, Iowa, where he remained one year, and later engaged in farming in Gentry county, Missouri, for a little over a year. Coming to York county in 1875, he purchased a homestead right in McFadden township. A dugout served as the first home of the family here, but this was soon replaced with a more commodious frame residence. Five years were spent in the cultivation and improvement of this farm and then he sold it, and secured the quarter section adjoining it to the south. In 1883 he moved to Fillmore county and purchased a farm southeast of Fairmont. This has been in his possession for the intervening fifty-six years and it has been his home for all those years, with the exception of about three years he lived with his daughter, at Superior, Nebraska. On September 28, 1866, Mr. Tutty married Miss Matilda Coster, a native of London, England. Four children were born of this union: Richard, who died in infancy, Mrs. Agnes Niehaus of Fairmont, Daniel of Lincoln, and John of Fairmont. Mrs. Tutty died August 6, 1913. Kirman Tutty held the distinction of having been a member of the local Methodist church the longest time. He joined this church by letter, Feb. 25, 1883, and was active in it until the infirmities of old age made it impossible for him to attend. The hymnology of the church was familiar to him, and he found much satisfaction in repeating them over in the days when he was bedfast. The deceased was highly regarded as a neighbor and friend. His children honored and loved him and gave him every care possible in his old age. Sixteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, in addition to his three living children survive his passing. There is also one brother, John, of Rapid City, S.D. Funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon, September 25, at the Fairmont Methodist church, with the pastor, Rev. Robert L. Embree, officiating. A quartet comprising Mrs. Helen Little, Mrs. Mabel Quinlan, W.E. Black and Oliver Moul sang, accompanied by Mrs. A.A. Ashby at the piano. Pallbearers were W.R. Dorrance, A. Noragon, Eck Hill, Charles Shoemaker, Herman Palmer and Neal Thompson. Among those from other points in attendance at the funeral were: Dan Tutty, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Tutty, Mrs. Gordon Moore and daughters, Norma and Virginia and son, Melvin, Dorothy and John Tutty, all of Lincoln; Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Niehaus, Donna and Donald of Omaha; Charles Niehaus of Holdrege; Merle Tutty and Wilbur Niehaus of Tulsa, Okla.; and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Green of York.
