Description	:	Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at the South Branch church for K. E. Belgum. Rev. Turmo, pastor of the church preached the funeral sermon. Mr. Belgum died Saturday, July 21st, at a Hastings hospital where he had been for several years suffering from the infirmities of old age. He had lost the sight of both eyes. Turmo, pastor of the church preached the funeral sermon. Mr. Belgum died Saturday, July 21st, at a Hastings hospital where he had been for several years suffering from the infirmities of old age. He had lost the sight of both eyes. Knut Belgum was born in Valders, Norway, June 8th, 1848. He attended the common schools and was confirmed when 16 years old. He left Norway in 1881, going from there to Wisconsin where he stayed until 1882 when he moved to Boone county, settling on a homestead in Shell Creek. In 1883 he was married to Pernilla Namsdal, from Nordfjord, Norway. Three children were born to this union, two dying in infancy. Mrs. Belgum died in 1885. Elmer the only surviving member of this family lives at Dix, Nebraska and was present at the funeral of his father. Mr. Belgum was married in 1886 to Samalina Myklehurst, of Nordjford. Nine children were born to this marriage, Carl of Dix, Elmer who lives with his mother at Petersburg, Selmer at Lincoln, Mrs. Clarence Hale of Ericson, Mrs. Kenneth Watts of Bartlett, Mrs. Louise Lee of Lewellen and Mrs. Robert Caparoon of Burwel. Emelia preceded him in death. The funeral was attended by many relatives and friends. He was laid to rest beside his first wife and two children. A brother, Juel Belgum of Newman Grove; a sister, Mrs. Julia Griggs, of Lawton, Oklahoma; and fifteen grandchildren also survive him. His death marks the passing of another of the old settlers, one of the builders of the community and church in the early days. He died at the age of 86 years. All of the children, with the exception of Mrs. Louise Lee, were present at the funeral. (Albion Weekly News – Albion, Nebraska – July 26, 1934)
