He was born in Mechanicsville, Iowa March 19, 1844, and made Cedar county his home until about six years ago, when he went to live with his son just beyond the Muscatine county line. Read More	Tipton Conservative 8 March 1922 McCoy--At the home of his son, Charles McCoy, near Moscow, Monday morning, March 6, Larkin McCoy passed away at the age of 78 years. He was born in Mechanicsville, Iowa March 19, 1844, and made Cedar county his home until about six years ago, when he went to live with his son just beyond the Muscatine county line. He married Mrs. Mary Ridgeway many years ago and is survived by two sons. When the civil war broke out he twice tendered his services in defence of the union, but was both times rejected on account of physical defects, ad the army was thus deprived of a good soldier who would not have failed to do his full duty under all circumstances. Industrious and untiring in whatever he attempted to do he was a most faithful employee and kept steadily at work as long as able to do so, and only rested from his labors a short time prior to his death. Funeral services will be conducted from the late home today and interment made at Rochester. Larkin married Mary Bair Ridgeway 9 Mar 1873 in Cedar county, Iowa In the 1850 census, Larkin is listed as Larkin Shintaffer, b IA - aged 6, and living with George McCoy, b VA - aged 53, and Mary, b OH - aged 38 *In the 1860 census, Larkin, aged 16, is listed in the household of George (63) and Mary McCoy (48) with the last name Stratton. It is unknown when and why he started using the McCoy last name, but he is listed as Larkin McCoy in his marriage record to Mary Bair Ridgeway.
