Read More	OBITUARY AND PHOTO CREDIT Lyerly Funeral Home Larry Arnold Poteat, 81, of Mount Ulla, NC, passed away Friday, February 18, at Novant Forsyth Hospital, Winston Salem, NC. He was born on August 8,1940 to the late Arnold and Hilda Myers Poteat. He was preceded in death by his brother Norman Poteat (Janice). He graduated from Mount Ulla High School in 1958 and entered the Marine Corps in October 1958. After serving four years active duty and two years reserve duty, he attended Automation Training School in St. Louis, Mo. He worked as a Programmer/Systems Analyst until his retirement from Food Lion in 2001. He then took a part-time position as President and Sales Associate for Rowan Mutual Insurance Company and retired from that position in 2020. He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Mount Ulla. His two main interests outside of work were spending time with his Family and Singing. The many family vacations and shared adventures on the farm will never be forgotten by his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. His love of music was an inspiration to all who knew him. He sang in several musical groups including the church choir, Rowan Choral Society, and Men in Song. His lifelong dream was to sing with a Southern Gospel Quartet and this dream was fulfilled when he was asked to sing bass with the Chapeleers Gospel Group. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Carolyn Kluttz Poteat, whom he married on December 31, 1961. Daughters: Muriel Poteat Watson (Frank) Southport, NC and Beth Poteat Schnyder (Bob) Portland, Oregon. Granddaughters: Cali and Amanda Watson, Southport, NC, Claire and Madeline Schnyder, Portland, Oregon. Sisters: Jan Sywenki, Salisbury, NC, Elaine McLaughlin (Bill) Mooresville, NC, Laura Myers (Sean) Mount Ulla, NC and Joyce Sloop (John) Mooresville, NC. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall at St. Luke's Lutheran Church Mount Ulla, NC, on Wednesday February 23, 2022. Service will follow in the Sanctuary at 3:00 pm with the Rev. Scott Swix officiating and burial will be in the church cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Lyerly Volunteer Joint Services Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to the Cemetery Fund of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 11020 North Carolina Hwy 801, Mt. Ulla, NC 28125. The Service will be streamed at: stlukesmtulla.org.
