Description	:	Larry D. Lursen, 62, of rural Clarksville died at his home Friday, March 18th from complications of the treatment for lung cancer. He was born October 4, 1948, in Hampton, Iowa, son of Harm 'Bud' and Alice Pagel Lursen. He married Monica Shope on February 27, 1971 at LeGrand Friends Church, LeGrand. Lursen, 62, of rural Clarksville died at his home Friday, March 18th from complications of the treatment for lung cancer. He was born October 4, 1948, in Hampton, Iowa, son of Harm 'Bud' and Alice Pagel Lursen. He married Monica Shope on February 27, 1971 at LeGrand Friends Church, LeGrand. Mr. Lursen graduated from Waverly-Shell Rock High School in 1966, continuing his education at Ellsworth Community College and then Iowa State University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in animal science in 1970. He began his work for Armour and Company in Marshalltown and then Producers Marketing Association in Fort Wayne, Indiana before returning to the family farm in Iowa. He was a founding member of Faith Lutheran Church, Shell Rock and was currently serving on the Board of Directors for Butler County Mutual Insurance and the Iowa State University College of Agriculture Endowment Committee. He was a past president and long time member of the Shell Rock Lions Club. Larry also served on the Board of Directors for Farmers Cooperative Company of Shell Rock and Readlyn. He is joined on the family farm and in Lursen Trucking by his two sons, Christopher and Patrick, and longtime friends, Terry and Rachael Siems. He is survived by his wife, Monica of rural Clarksville; two sons, Christopher Lursen and his fiancé, Sarah Rasmussen, of Ames, Patrick and Kimberly (Mehmen) Lursen and grandsons, Kyler and Kipton, of Janesville; a sister, Mary Lursen and her husband, Daryl Tetterton of Dubuque; a cousin and her husband, Judy and Orville Van Raden of Hampton; numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Shell Rock, with Pastor Kim Smith officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Shell Rock. Public visitation will be held on Monday, March 21st from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Shell Rock and also for an hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church. Memorial fund: a scholarship is being established in the name of Larry and Monica Lursen in the College of Agriculture at Iowa State University in care of the ISU Foundation, 2505 University Boulevard, PO Box 2230, Ames, IA 50010-2230, phone 866-419-6768.
