Description	:	Larry William Moses died this week at his home, after a long struggle with congestive heart disease. He was born September 9, 1935, in a small coal mining camp in Pershing, Iowa, to Alfred John Moses and Myrtle Fry Moses, both of whom preceded him in death. Larry is survived by his beloved daughters, Laurie Moses Bryant, of Solsberry, and Rebecca Moses Justice of Hagerstown, and by their mother, Loretta Hasten Moses, of Richmond. Read More	Larry William Moses died this week at his home, after a long struggle with congestive heart disease. He was born September 9, 1935, in a small coal mining camp in Pershing, Iowa, to Alfred John Moses and Myrtle Fry Moses, both of whom preceded him in death. Larry is survived by his beloved daughters, Laurie Moses Bryant, of Solsberry, and Rebecca Moses Justice of Hagerstown, and by their mother, Loretta Hasten Moses, of Richmond. Laurie as a geriatric care nurse, and Beckie as a children's rights advocate, and lastly, he is survived by Loretta Moses, whose exemplary life served as a model for them both. Larry is also survived by his second wife, Traci Van Paris, whose love, laughter and intellect enlivened his life and inspired the last years of his research and teaching. He leaves behind one grandson, Jason Bryant, two great granddaughters, four step-grandchildren, and three sisters, Lodema Holcomb, Jeanne Powers, and Roberta Frey. Special mention should be made of two others, Charlene, Laurie's companion, and their son Devon. They have brought love and support to Laurie, and are deserving of our thanks. After graduation from Burlington High School in Iowa, Larry enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he served proudly for four years as a Russian Language Specialist and Cryptographic Analyst. Returning to college in 1958, he earned a B.A. and M.A. in International Politics and Russian Area Studies from the State University of Iowa, before moving to Washington, D.C., where he was employed for several years at the Department of State as an Intelligence Research Officer in the Office of Intelligence and Research. He was proud to have worked, on a part-time appointment at the then-named Crane Naval Weapons Depot while in Graduate School, from 1964 to 1968. In 1964, he returned to school, earning an M.A. and Ph.D. in Inner Asian and Mongolian Language and Area Studies. Larry was a teacher for most of his career. He sought out teaching because it gave him an opportunity to share his love of learning with others. To that end, Larry prized only one award, that of ‘Teacher of the Year' presented to him by the Student Alumni Council, because of its provenance from his former students. He will be cremated at Day Funeral Home. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no viewing, visitation or services. His ashes will be interred at the site of his parents' and grandparents' graves in the Moses family plot in Old Zion Cemetery in Pershing, Iowa. The Herald-Times, Bloomington, IN, July 3, 2008
