He took the name "Swift" when he arrived. After spending a night, he took a train to LeGrand and arrived July 7, 1882. He had two brothers, Bertin and Martin, the latter coming to America himself. Andrew later met Martha Inger Christina Andrea Jahnsen and married her at her mother's home near Pickering on May 3, 1888.
