| Description | : | Martha Inger Christina Andrea Jahnsen ("Andrea") was born to Ommund and Martha Reiersen Jahnsen in Stavanger, Norway. Her father was a sea captain who was lost at sea around Australia. When Andrea was nine, she, her mother, brother John, her mother's brother Reier Reierson, her mother's aunt, uncle, and their six children sailed to America by way of Quebec, Canada. They sailed down the St. Lawrence River, through the Erie Canal over to Chicago, then by train to Marshalltown. They arrived September 12, 1870. She later married "Andrew" Swift and they settled northwest of Gilman to raise their family. |
