She passed away Saturday, November 11, 2017, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of ninety-two. LaRue was raised in the Charter Oak area and received her education in the schools near her home. On February 15, 1943, she was united in marriage to Francis “Butch” Quandt at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Charter Oak, Iowa, and after their marriage, they farmed near Charter Oak and Denison until 1957 when they moved to Schleswig where LaRue worked at Behrmann’s Grocery Store for nine years. After her husband died, she was employed at Farmland Foods in Denison until she retired at the age of sixty. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison and was the oldest surviving member of the Ladies VFW Auxiliary. She was a good cook, particularly being remembered for her homemade rye bread. In her leisure time, she enjoyed cards, bingo, embroidering, watching Lawrence Welk, listening to polka music and dancing in her younger days. She also loved listening to Daniel O’Donnell. LaRue was a hard worker, who never complained about the hard times. She was a substitute mom for kids that didn’t have mothers. She lived for her family – they were very important to her, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. LaRue was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Francis; her sister, Marcella and her husband, Elmer; and one grandson, James. Survivors include two daughters, Maxine and her husband, Tom; and Marjorie and her husband, Dan; three sons, Ronald and his wife, Eileen; Richard and his wife, Kathy; and Russell; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
