Amanda (Mrs. Jesse) Sloat, 91, 10 N. 4th St., died Sunday morning a the State Center Manor, and services have been set for Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. from the First Friends Church. The Rev. Francis Ross will officiate, and burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Pursel-Davis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family suggests that memorials be directed to the First Friends Church. Mrs. Sloat was born Dec. 6, 1889, southwest of Marshalltown, a daughter of James L. and Nettie L. Burr Harrah. She was married to Jesse E. Sloat on Feb. 18, 1915, in Green Mountain, and he survives. Besides the widower, other survivors include two sons: Wayne Sloat, Conrad, and Herbert Sloat, Fort Smith, Ark.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a brother, Grant Harrah, Marshalltown, and a sister, Mrs. Orpha Dobson, Grundy Center. She was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother. Mrs. Sloat was reared and educated in the rural County and Marshalltown schools, and following her marriage, had farmed with her husband in various places in Marshall County. They retired in 1960 and moved to Marshalltown. She was a member of the First Friends Church, the Friends Auxiliary and the Missionary Meeting, and had been active in the Marshall County Farm Bureau Women and the Marshall County Senior Citizens.
