Main St., Marshalltown, died March 25, 2006, at Oakview Care Center in Conrad. Funeral services and a celebration of Wayne's life will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens, with a time of fellowship and refreshment to follow in the hospitality room of the funeral home. Born Feb. 28, 1916, in Marshall County, Iowa, he was the son of Jesse Ellsworth and L. Amanda (Harrah) Sloat. He graduated with the State Center High School Class of 1934. In 1937, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Sprouse. She preceded him in death in 1956. On June 8, 1958, he was married to Ada Frazier. She passed away in 1988. Mr. Sloat farmed and moved to the Conrad area in 1949. In 1958, he moved to Conrad where he was employed at Conrad Sales (Implements) and retired in 1978. In 2005 he became a member of the Westown Apartments (on West Main Street in Marshalltown) family. He enjoyed his friends there. Wayne also enjoyed fishing and camping with family. Wayne was a member of the Friends Church in Marshalltown, Bangor Liberty Friends Church and 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge in Eldora. Left to celebrate his life are his son Allen Wayne (Callee) Sloat of Gulfport Miss. and their daughter Sondra; daughter Melanie Ann (Randy) Pohlenz of Topeka, Kan. and their children Nicholas and Zachary Wayne; grandchildren Kim Davis of Marshalltown, Terry (Barb) Schrafel of Cedar Rapids and Kelly Schrafel of Marshalltown; six great grandchildren; brother Herbert (Joan) Sloat of Ft. Smith, Ark. and their daughters Ann Marie and Carol; cousins Raymond Sloat and Charles Sloat; as well as his friends at Westown Apartments and others. In death he has rejoined his parents; his wives; and daughter Esther Schrafel who died this past year.
