Description	:	Laura was born in Sonoma County, California December 3, 1856 to Zephaniah Gossage (1825-1876) and Martha Jane McCracken Gossage (1831-1859). She was the 4th of 5 children born to the couple. Her parents and oldest sister had come to California from Iowa in 1850 during the gold rush with two of her father's older brothers. While her uncles pursued the valuable metal, her father chose to purchase and farm over 200 acres of rich soil in Analy, Sonoma County, California. Read More	Laura was born in Sonoma County, California December 3, 1856 to Zephaniah Gossage (1825-1876) and Martha Jane McCracken Gossage (1831-1859). She was the 4th of 5 children born to the couple. Her parents and oldest sister had come to California from Iowa in 1850 during the gold rush with two of her father's older brothers. While her uncles pursued the valuable metal, her father chose to purchase and farm over 200 acres of rich soil in Analy, Sonoma County, California. When Laura was not quite 3, her mother died from dysentery and left five very young children to be raised by her father. Sadly both brothers, George Washington Gossage and Franklin Gossage, died on the same day just two years after their mother of unknown causes, probably an accident, They were ages 9 and 3. Laura married Arthur Bidle in Santa Rosa, California September 9, 1875. Arthur was also farming in Sonoma County when the couple welcomed their two children - Bertha, born in 1876, and William three years later. By 1885, Arthur moved his family to Washington Territory where he farmed and ranched along the Snake River which formed a southeastern border between what became the states of Idaho (1890) and Washington (1889). They settled in the Palouse area of SE Washington where they had a wheat farm. He also raised cattle with his son on the Dumack Plains of Idaho. All this time Laura ran the household and raised their two children and helped with her eleven grandchildren. In 1920 she buried her daughter, Bertha, who died from kidney disease ten years following the sudden death of her husband while visiting their daughter. During her daughter's illness, she lived with the family in Spokane to help care for her daughter and six grandchildren. By 1930, at age 73, Laura had moved back to the Palouse area and was keeping house for two of her older grandsons, Lawrence (29) and Charles (25), on their wheat farm. By 1935, Laura had moved back to her own home in Colfax and was living alone. She died at her home from heart disease Halloween night, 1941. She was 84.
