Read More	Holyoke Enterprise, Holyoke, Colorado, August 3, 2006 Laura Rethmeier, 96, of Holyoke, died July 27, 2006 in Holyoke. She was born October 21, 1909 in Brown County, Nebraska near Brewster, to John and Minnie (Eigbrett) Einspahr. In 1929 she moved to Amherst with her family. As a young woman she lived with other families helping to take care of their children, perform cooking duties and cleaning. February 11, 1934 Laura married Edward Rethmeier at Amherst. The couple farmed near Julesburg. They moved to Salem, Oregon for a short time where Edward worked at a sawmill and drove a truck. They moved back to Julesburg and there the couple remained to raise their two children, Duane and Elaine. Life brought new challenges to Laura with the passing of Edward in January 1971. Julesburg schools were blessed to have her as their cook for 35 years. Many people talk about how she would always give them extra servings, especially cookies. She also tended a very large garden and canned. She made the best fried chicken and Duane's favorite "scrapple." Teaching her granddaughters-in-law her cooking secrets never worked because she never measured anything. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed. Survivors include son Duane Rethmeier of Plano, Texas; daughter Elaine Gerk of Brule, Nebraska; grandchildren Kathryn McKinney of Taunton, Massachusetts, Scott and Christina Rethmeier of Plano, Texas, Mark and Edwina Gerk of Papillion, Nebraska, Casey and Hollie Gerk and Brad and Chris Gerk, all of Holyoke; great-grandchildren Ilea, Nicole, Breanne, Megan, Brett, Laura, Talia, Chandler, Jacklyn, Katelyn, Chance, Abigale and Samantha; and one great great grandchild, Paighton. She is preceded in death by her husband Edward; infant daughter Deloris; four brothers, Walter, Frank, Ervin and Emil; sister Emma Grant; great granddaughter Cecelia Gerk; daughter-in-law Yolanda Rethmeier; and son-in-law Robert Gerk. Visitation was Sunday, July 30 at Gerk Funeral Home Chapel in Holyoke. Funeral services were held Monday, July 31, 2006 at Gerk Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Holyoke Memorial Park.
