From Centerville Daily Iowegian and Citizen of Tuesday December 3, 1935, page 3 Mrs. Laura Matherly Laura Helen, daughter of Conrad and Margaret Tharp, was born Dec. 30, 1868 and departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ray Coltrain at Moravia, Iowa, Dec. 7, 1936 at the age of 67 years, 11 months, and 6 days, after an illness extending over several months. During these months she was a very patient sufferer, and was always grateful to and thoughtful of those who cared for her. On March 17, 1887, she was united in marriage to Silas Matherly. To this union eight children were born: Harley of Valley Junction, Iowa; Roy, Mrs. Elsie Coltrain and Mrs. Cora Stocker of Moravia; Forrest of Albia; Fred of San Pedro, Calif.; and Mrs. Gladys Huff of Gary, Ind. Besides the immediate family, with twenty-five grandchildren who are left to mourn their loss, there are also three brothers and three sisters: Will Tharp of Bloomfield; Charley of Centerville and Emery of Omaha, Nebr.; Mrs. Sarah Ellison of Ottumwa; Mrs. Mary Elder of Oak Grove; and Mrs. Maggie Clark of Udell; besides nephews and nieces and other relatives. One of the children and the husband and father preceded her in death. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ in Moravia and always attended the services as long as her health permitted her faith and trust and hope in her Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a kind and loving mother; and friend to all and helped others to the extent of her ability. She was held in high esteem by all who knew her. Her suffering is ended, her course is run, she has entered into rest and joy forever more. Funeral services were held from the Moravia Chuch of Christ, Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 9, at 1:30 o'clock, Rev. W. J. Hastie officiating. Interment in Moravia cemetery.
