The accident occurred on a long curve when MissBennett, who was driving, applied the brakes to avoid an approaching car which appeared to be troubled by ice; her car turned about & rolled from the road on the opposite side. The car was a small roadster; MrsBennett apparently had braced herself against the accident; her neck was broken by the back of the seat. The car was resting on its top but MissBennett managed to extricate herself from behind the wheel & went to the aid of her mother. With the assistance of the other driver, who was BW Bleecker-Potlatch, she was taken from the car in an unconscious condition & both ladies were rushed to the SheltonHosp, where exam-ination proved that MrsBennett was dead. The accident occurred about 8:30; MrsBennett & her daughter being on their way to visit a sister of the former, MrsJames Lee, who was ill at CastleRock. The pavement was covered with a film of ice & to add to the danger of driving there was a heavy fog which hovered over the road. The condition of the pavement was responsible for several more accidents on the highway during the morning, but none resulted in injury to occupants of the cars. LAURA JANE BENNETT was born 6 Feb 1872 at MtMoriah MO & was married to {John Franklin} J F Bennett 9 Dec 1895 at Sherwood OR. They came to Shelton in the following year & have lived in or near Shelton, a record of 31yrs. She is survived by her husband; dau: Alma & 3 sons: Dan, Dewey & Vearl-all living here. A sis: MrsJames Lee, whom she was on the way to visit, lives in CastleRock & with her sons, was here for the funeral. Mr&Mrs Cave Bennett of Grandview, were also present, with many friends sympathizing with the family over their sudden & terrible bereavement. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev J H Avery, a large gathering of family friends were present with a profusion of flowers. Interment was made in the Masonic cemetery, where the Shelton Valley Grange, of which the deceased was an active & honored member, gave their ritual service.
