Read More	Funeral Saturday For Laura Pomeroy Laura Pomeroy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Pomeroy, was born on a farm near Allen, Nebraska, January 17, 1887. She departed this life at the Wakefield Community Hospital January 3, 1952, at the age of 64 years, 11 months and 16 days. She spent the earlier years of her life with her parents on the farm. She attended rural school and the Allen high school. She was attending college in Lincoln at the time of the death of her brother’s wife in 1924. She left school and came to care for the bereaved family. She remained with her brother until his son and daughter were reared, giving freely of her time and labor to make a home for them. They later moved to Allen and when Ross decided to move west, Laura put her education to practical use by giving piano instruction, working in the Allen News office and doing secretarial work. Laura was initiated into Opal Chapter No. 195, Order of the Eastern Star in 1916 and remained a member in good standing throughout her life. She held various offices to the credit of herself and her brother and sister members. She joined the Allen Methodist Church in November, 1924. She was a member of the women’s organizations and gave valued service in the various departments of the work. She was secretary and pianist for the church school for a number of years and was very faithful both in work and attendance. Being gifted as a reader, she assisted many times in programs at the church and in the community. She had been in failing health for some time before suffering a heart attack in the fall of 1950 as she was preparing to go to California with her niece, Elaine Brandenburger. After a short time in the hospital she continued her journey, returning to Allen in the spring of 1951, but gradually became weaker and entered the hospital in August where she remained until her death. She leaves to mourn her passing two brothers, Ross of Monterey, Cal. and Dean of Memerer, Wyo., one sister, Mrs. Edith Burgess of Needles, Cal., eight nieces and nephews, several grand nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held from the Allen Methodist Church, on Saturday at 2 o’clock, Rev. Karl O’Zavadil officiating. Mrs. Dorothy Engel sang, accompanied by Mrs. Josie Hill at the organ.
