Description	:	Mrs. (Laura) Sue Bartlett Smith age 95 years a resident of Belington departed this life peacefully Saturday morning December 22, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family and caregivers. She was born August 16, 1923 at Elkins, WV a daughter of the late Gordon Clifford and Cora Ella Wilson Bartlett. On May 29th 1960 she was united in marriage to Edgar Allen Smith who preceded her in death on December 31, 2004. She was born August 16, 1923 at Elkins, WV a daughter of the late Gordon Clifford and Cora Ella Wilson Bartlett. On May 29th 1960 she was united in marriage to Edgar Allen Smith who preceded her in death on December 31, 2004. Mrs. Smith is survived one sister in law Carol Bartlett, Chagrin Falls OH, nephews Don Bartlett Massachusetts, Stephen Thomas Bartlett of Maryland, David, Daniel and Douglas Bartlett all of Ohio, two nieces Paula Bartlett of Maryland and Jane Bartlett of New York. Other survivors include caregivers Marshal and Dianna Reed, Donna and Lee Endler, Leslie Ogden, Donna Jones, Beverly Bodkins, Ann Durking, Nancy Holbert, Sara Harris, and others throughout the years. In addition to her beloved parents and husband she was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Robert Bartlett, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Sue was a 1940 graduate of the Belington High School, and had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Belington since 1935 where she had been the pianist for many years. She received a Masters Degree from both the Alderson and Broaddus College and the University of Pittsburg. Following her academic career, she became an employee of the Alderson Broaddus College as the school’s registrar. In 1955 she transferred to the Broaddus Hospital where she worked in the business office. In 1961 she and her husband Ed moved to Ohio where they both obtained jobs. Sue became employed by the Mayfield City School District and later in the West Branch local school district. Upon their retirement in 1983 she and Ed retired back in Belington where she devoted much of her time volunteering for many local organizations. She was always there for people in the community helping them in any way she could. Sue was an avid quilter, and was dedicated to exercising by walking up to four miles each day that the weather would allow. She was also an avid reader, gardener and canner. She was a great all-around human being always putting others first and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington Saturday December 29th 2018 from 12pm -2:30pm the funeral hour when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Pastor Julie Miller officiating. Interment will then follow in the Concord Cemetery near Belington. Per Mrs. Smiths request floral offerings are to be respectfully omitted and memorial contributions be made to the Belington First Baptist Church. The Talbott Funeral Home in Belington is in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. (Laura) Sue Bartlett Smith. Condolences can be made to the family at www.talbottfuneralhome.com.
