She was baptized March 24, 1912 at the Boyd Lutheran Church and confirmed May 16, 1926 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg by Rev. Otto C. Durr. She received her education in the rural schools near Fredericksburg and also the Parochial School at St. Paul's. She was baptized March 24, 1912 at the Boyd Lutheran Church and confirmed May 16, 1926 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg by Rev. Otto C. Durr. She received her education in the rural schools near Fredericksburg and also the Parochial School at St. Paul's. As a young woman she worked for a brief time as a housekeeper and nanny in the Chicago area. On June 14, 1941, she was united in Marriage with Hilmer "Bill" Blaschke at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg by Rev. Harold Wunderlich. The couple made their home in Sumner their entire married lives. Bill's death occurred on December 15, 1989. A resident of the Hillcrest Home in Sumner for the past four years, Laurena's death occurred at Hillcrest this past Sunday, August 3, 1997, following a lengthy illness. She was 85 years old and a longtime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg where she had been very active with the Ladies Aid. Laurena is survived by five brothers, Paul Gitch of Fredericksburg, Arnold Gitch of Sumner, Raymond Gitch of Vancouver, Washington, Earl Gitch of Fredericksburg, and Louis Gitch of Sumner; one sister Helen Kerr of Sumner; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one sister Norma Klotz; and one brother Alvin Gitch. -from her funeral card
