Description	:	Louis Lavern, son of August and Matilda Kammeyer Gitch, was born April 7, 1922in rural Fredericksburg, Iowa. He was baptixed May 14, 1922 and confirmed June 2, 1935 at St Paul's Lutheran in Fredericksburg, and attended the parochial school at St Paul's. On August 18, 1946, he was united in marriage with Mary Elaine McCue at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Louis farmed in Chickasaw County until 1962 when he moved to Bremer County. He and his wife have resided in Sumner since 1993. Following a brief illness, his death occurred Thursday evening, September 30, 2004 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. He was a lifelong member of St Paul's Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg where he served as church elder, trustee and various other offices. He was also a board member of Fredericksburg Produce Association and the Bremer County Dairy Promoters. In addition to his wife, Mary Elaine, he is survived by two daughters, Nancy (Michael) Petersen of Alamo, Texas and Grethen (James) Warkentin of North Liberty; five sons, John (Joyce) Gitch of Sumner, Joseph (Joyce) Gitch of Coralville, Loren (Janet) Gitch of Sumner, Vincent (Lynn) of Grapevine, Texas, and Mark (Cindy) Gitch of Frederika; sixteen grandchildren; four great grandchildren, one brother, Raymond (Doris) Gitch of King City, Oregon, and one sister, Helen Kerr of Sumner. He wa preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, Julia Gitch; two sisters, Norma Klotz and Laurena Blaschke; and four brothers, Paul, Arnold, Alvin and Earl Gitch.
