Location: Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service Laurence “L.W.” Barclay, 98, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, as well as his beloved wife, Mildred, on November 15, 2012. Laurence was born on February 8, 1914 in Belgrade, MT to William B. and Lucy Barclay. He lived in the Gallatin Valley all his life, attending schools in Belgrade, and graduated in 1932. Laurence farmed with his father until he married the love of his life, Mildred Killorn. They started their own farm together. Laurence and Mildred were married November 12, 1941 at the Methodist Church in Livingston, MT. Their first home was on Jackrabbit Lane where their three daughters, Edith, Lucille and Linette were born. In the fall of 1944 they moved to their home on Monforton School Road where they farmed and raised their family. In 1990 Laurence and Mildred moved to Southbrook Condominiums in Bozeman, and moved to Highgate in 2005, where Laurence lived until his death. Laurence and Mildred spent 20 wonderful years as snowbirds in Mesa, AZ where they both enjoyed golf and spending time with many friends. Laurence was involved in many community activities over the years. He was a board member at Monforton School, served two terms as president of Farm Bureau during his many years as a member, was a volunteer fireman for the Belgrade Fire District for several years, and served on the Beck and Border water control. He was involved in the Rainbow 4-H Club while his daughters were members. Laurence’s hobbies and interests, along with farming, were gardening, fishing and golf. He had a special ability to make anything grow, especially flowers. He was a hard worker, as honest as they come, and a loving husband, father and grandfather. Laurence was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mildred; daughter, Edith; one brother and one sister. He is survived by his twin daughters, Lucille (Phil) Jolliff and Linette (Jim) Johnson; son-in-law, Ric (Susan) Tieman; sister, Emma Monroe; eight grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Tuesday, July 2, at Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service. A reception will follow in the basement of the First Presbyterian Church. A private family interment will be held on Tuesday morning.
